LATEST NEWS.......
Wednesday 1st October. Bosbury Cricket Club held its AGM on Wednesday 1st October. Chairman Paul Allen opened his address by first thanking the tea ladies for their splendid efforts during the season. He congratulated the team on a fine season which culminated in the side finishing fourth in their first season in Division 2, but said on reflection, whilst the club had initially looked to consolidate their position, it was felt that promotion to Division 1 was certainly attainable. A special mention went to Head Groundsman Alan Lancett who once again had produced excellent wickets, the lowest mark all season being 7. Thanks went also to Jon Owen for organising the inaugural six a side competition. The day had been a resounding success and would certainly be in next years calendar. Thanks were also given to Richard Davies for umpiring the whole competition, to Simon Probyn who assisted, to Dave Daffin for scoring, to Luke Ledbury, Steve Davies and Darren Cooke for helping run the bar and to Hannah Bott of Catley Cakes for running the BBQ. Special mention was also given to Rob and Alison of the Bell Inn for their continued support of the club. The Chairman thanked Bill Rees, the former Secretary for his continued involvement with the club and also thanked the current Secretary, Dave Daffin for his efforts over the year in both his role as Secretary, for his administration of the club website and also the play cricket website. A special mention was given to Steve Davies who stepped down this year as 1st XI Captain after six years in the role. The Chairman thanked Steve for his efforts over these years and congratulated him on his successful record, in fact this was the first season that the club, under his Captaincy had failed to win a trophy. The Chairman said that he hoped the new Captain would continue this run of success in the coming years. In the financial statement, the Treasurer showed that although the club were still in profit, the club had in fact made a trading loss of nearly £1500.00. This was due in no small part to the acquisition of the new outfield mower, new clubhouse doors, new playing kit and the new scoreboard. The officers elected for the following year are:- Chairman - Paul Allen. Secretary - Dave Daffin. Treasurer - Paul Allen. 1st XI Captain - Jon Owen. 1st XI Vice Captain - Luke Ledbury. 2nd XI Captain - Dave Daffin Head Groundsman - Alan Lancett. Child Welfare Officer - Paul Allen. It was agreed that the club would try to run 2 sides in 2009 and players were asked to help with recruitment. This topic though, along with fund raising would form the basis of the next committee meeting. Subscription Fees for the season remain at £40.00 for adults and £20.00 for juniors. Playing fees remained the same at £5.00 per game for adults and £2.50 for juniors. The Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening is scheduled for the 5th December with times and menus to be advised. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 29th October to commence at 8.00pm at the Bell Inn. All members are welcome to attend. Friday 27th June. From the Hereford Times: West Indian pace ace holds no fears for Goodrich 2nd 11:05am Friday 27th June 2008
THE thought of facing a West Indian fast bowler on a damp pitch is enough to send most cricketers into a cold sweat.
But it became a reality for Herefordshire villagers Moccas who likened the experience to facing an ‘express train’.
Elsroy Powell, 26, has taken 27 senior wickets in the Caribbean and plays for the Leeward Islands, St Kitts and West Indies B.
His last top-flight appearance was for St Kitts against the United States Virgin Islands in a Twenty20 match in January.
It is a far cry from Bosbury Primary School’s sports field where Powell charged in to bowl in a GB Liners Marches League Division 2 match last Saturday.
Bosbury Cricket Club secretary Dave Daffin explained: “Elsroy came over to play for Colwall but there was a misunderstanding and they have another registered overseas player. We know some of the lads at Colwall because they used to play for us and they offered Elsroy to us for a few games.”
He added: “Elsroy is the first West Indian to play for Bosbury. He hopes to play for the West Indies and he can’t be too far away from knocking on their door.”
Perhaps not surprisingly, Powell soon had the Moccas batsmen cowering in the pavilion as he took a hat-trick and finished with 6-17.
Moccas were shot out for just 48 in 17.4 overs after Bosbury had posted 253-8.
Daffin said: “Elsroy scored 40 runs in his first match, before I ran him out. He scored 46 last Saturday before the ball stopped on him and he was caught. I can’t remember the last time that a Bosbury player took a hat-trick. It must have been a long time ago. I think Elsroy inspired Jon Owen because he bowled superbly at the other end.”
Moccas stalwart Joe Brown said: “He was like an express train and I don’t think any of our lads had seen anything like it before. We are bottom of the league and have made a very disappointing start to the season. It got even worse last Saturday.”
Powell wants to play in a higher standard of cricket and Daffin believes Bosbury may only have his services for one more match.
Goodrich 2nd are the visitors to Bosbury this Saturday.
Goodrich skipper Mark Evans said: “This is the first I have heard about Elsroy and it’s exciting to have such an excellent overseas cricketer playing in Herefordshire. We are looking forward to facing this rising West Indian star. Hopefully, he won’t take all 10 wickets!”
Saturday 7th June. The Richard Allen Scoreboard is unveiled by Mrs Allen at the ground. The less said about the result of the cricket, the better. (OK, we lost to Hereford City, Simon Probyn scored 41 not out, and Wadders took 4 wickets.)
On Saturday 7th June, Bosbury Cricket Club invited Mrs Allen to officially unveil the club's new scoreboard, dedicated in her late husband's honour. Richard Allen was a keen supporter of Bosbury and regularly attended home fixtures. With his sudden and sad departure, the club chose to use the money kindly donated to them to erect a lasting memento to his memory and a scoreboard seemed a fitting gesture. On unveiling the scoreboard Mrs Allen said she was very pleased and that she was sure her husband would be very proud to have this erected in his honour. The scoreboard contains a plaque in dedication to Mr Allen and is affectionately known by the players as the Richard Allen Scoreboard. The Club would like to thank all those who kindly donated and feel that this is a fitting gesture to one of it's friends and supporters.

Special thanks went to Celia for preparing the tea's throughout the season with a special thank you to Mrs Davies who 'stepped in' at the last minute to do the tea's for the last game of the season.
The Secretary read a statement from Bill Rees, former Secretary and member for 25 years wishing the club every success for the future. It was agreed that Mr Rees would be offered the position of President for his many years of service.
In the financial statement, the Treasurer showed the club had made a healthy profit for the season due to sponsorship and donations but also due to the fantastic response received at the 'Auction of Promises' evening and the Bingo's.
The Chairman thanked all members for their support throughout the season with the various projects and also with fund raising with a special mention for the fund raising committee of Rob, Jon and Chris for their sterling work organising the events.
All current officers were re-elected for the forthcoming year.

More nights are scheduled for the New Year. The 'Auction of Promises' held on Friday 14th December turned out to be a fantastic event which was well supported by all the players and members of the local community. James Pugh kindly gave up his time to oversee the auction and with his expert help and cajoling the club raised an incredible £1900.00, with an additional £150.00 for the Lymphoma Association, our chosen charity.
My thanks go to Jon, Chris and Rob for all their efforts in making this night such a fantastic success. Special thanks also to James Pugh of H.J. Pugh Auctioneers & Valuers for giving his time and efforts to our cause. May I thank also all those who kindly donated a 'promise', their help and generosity allowed the event to take place.

Christmas 2003 CONGRATULATIONS to Jon Owen and Helen who were married just before Christmas, and then jetted out to The Maldives for their honeymoon.
The club AGM 2003 was held in the Old School Hall on Friday 21st November 2003. Items discussed included fund raising activities for the coming year and work required to improve the ground facilities.
At the Hereford and District Cricket League AGM and Presentations evening at the Imperial in Hereford on Monday 27th October, it was confirmed that Ewyas Harold were the Division 1 champions for 2003. This was due to the withdrawal of St. Martin's just before the end of the season.
From the Ledbury Reporter: Title Decided off the pitch BOSBURY missed out on the division one title in the Hereford and District Cricket League after a decision in the committee room handed the trophy to rivals Ewyas Harold.
Bosbury finished the season in top spot but have now been demoted to runners up after a decision at this week's annual meeting that the results from all St. Martin's league games should be declared void, after that club folded just before the end of the season.
At the AGM and presentations evening on Monday night, Ewyas Harold were thus presented with the division one trophy.
Bosbury were annoyed that the first the club had heard about the situation was a call from the media to captain Chris Hill at the end of September, nearly a month after the end of the season, to ask him his opinion.
From the Hereford Times: Rules give Harold the title EWYAS Harold have been installed as the new - and last - champions of the Hereford Times Hereford and District Cricket League Division 1 after a meeting of league officials. Harold pipped Bosbury to the title for the first time after the league's executive committee expunged the playing record of St Martin's, who withdrew from the competition before the end of the season.
The news is a blow to Bosbury who believed they had clinched the crown after hammering Presteigne in a re-arranged final match.
League secretary Mark Rone explained: "We referred to a rule in the league's constitution at our end-of-season meeting which stipulates that the playing records of clubs that withdraw during the season must have their playing records declared null and void.
"The playing record of Kington 3rd in Division 2 was also expunged. But, after nullifying St Martin's record, Harold now finish above Bosbury in the table to win Division 1."
Harold's veteran team manager Les Dallow said: "I am sorry for Bosbury, but the league rules are quite clear. The entire team is delighted because we have never before won the Division 1 title."
Bosbury club captain Chris Hill said: "We are obviously surprised and disappointed, but we have a club meeting a week on Friday to discuss the subject. We understand that a rule is a rule, but we believe it would have been fairer on everyone had it been made known before the end of the season."
Webmasters Comment. Note that this does not necessarily represent the views of Bosbury Cricket Club. Whilst not taking anything away from the achievements of Ewyas Harold in 2003, it was sad that they were installed as Champions in such a way. Bosbury topped the Championship table in 2003 in terms of matches played. The fact is that St. Martin's completed nearly a full season before their demise, so it is unfortunate that a rule has been applied in such controversial circumstances, and not until well after the end of the season. It should have been possible to have communicated the status of the league tables before the final round of matches were played. Instead, the spirit of the game has been dented by applying the ruling. Presteigne must be applauded for playing us in the final game of the season, a match re-arranged due to a pre-exisiting committment by Bosbury players, and which was re-arranged well before the end of the season, not just because the championship hinged on it. Perhaps if the league had carried on, a review of the rule that nullified all match results of a team quitting near the end of the season could have been carried out. As it was, the title was decided not by the cricket on the field, but by events off it.

BOSBURY CELEBRATE WINNING THE HEREFORD AND DISTRICT LEAGUE DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2003.
Pictured here is a fresh-looking Chris Hill with a bottle of bubbly, surrounded by his tired and exhausted team-mates.
Bosbury believed they won the last ever Hereford and District League Division 1 title. until a phone call from the Hereford Times to Chris Hill when Chris was informed that Ewyas Harold had won the title. In 2004, the H & D league is merging with the Marches league. Bosbury will be playing in the Marches League Division 5a. We will publish more details when they are available. We can say that it promises to be a competitive league, and Bosbury are pleased to have been invited to join.
